Pimp your cap

Published August 26, 2017, by Ann-Charlotte Geissler

I haven´t been that fond of caps. I couldn´t really see the use and when I had short hair, I didn´t think it was that flattering. This summer though, I kind of found a cap useful. When I read books on my mobile phone I need some shadow to be able to see the text. So I tried with a cap. And I ended up using it all summer.

My cap is dark blue with a logo for a university on it. A technical university I didn´t attend. So I thought that I should pimp it a bit.

I´ve been experimenting a bit with dissolvable fabric and textile collage, so I used this technique to make my own application. First I put wool and yarn between two sheets of dissolvable fabric. Then I randomly sew with the sewing machine over the fabric. When the wool and yarn was as sewn together tightly, as a fabric of its own, I washed away the dissolvable fabric and had my own application.

I cut a piece that covered the logo and then put some more wool under and a piece of fabric on the back. Then I made an application of it. And then I sew the application onto the cap!

I´m still not sure I´m a cap person. But my cap is way nicer. And I don´t have to be awkward pretending to have a technical degree.
